Boro Marbles with Josh Mazet - New Class!

There were a lot of requested for Josh from the Glass Gallery so here he is!

June 5th & 6th

9am to 5pm

This will be a 2 day class focused on lampworked borosilicate marbles.

The teacher, Josh Mazet, is a marble specialist and he'll share all his tips and tricks he has learned over the years

This class is laid out in a progressive schedule with each demo building on the previous, cumulating in the poplar "Vortex" marble. On day one we'll start with an emphasis on proper forming, shaping, and using a graphite marble mold. From there we'll move on to color application, and the correct use of dicro and successfully using it in your marbles. Josh is Coating By Sandberg's main lampwork instructor, and you can be confident you will be leaving with the ability to add some sparkle and bling to your lampworking projects. Day one will conclude with students making their own "galaxy marbles" that feature big bursts of dicro within the marble.

Day 2 is focused on the Vortex marble. These marbles are recognized by their optical illusion of being deeper than would seem possible. The day will offer multiple demo's in the vortex, with students given the opportunity for several attempts of their own.

Josh has a BFA in ceramics from the University of Oregon, and is a certified boro color instructor. During the course of the class Josh will discuss color and flame chemistry, heat management, torch settings, safety, body positioning, and the resources available to glass workers. This discussion will go beyond simply the "what" to do,  but the "why" so students have full understanding of process of, the reasons behind the decisions of someone  who has made over 5,000 torchworked marbles.

Cost: $249

$50 non-refundable deposit due

Prerequisite: Intro to beadmaking or intro to boro or torchworking for fusers or equivalent experience.

In this 16 hour class, we will be covering off mandrel basics, using borosilicate glass.

Students will learn flame settings, cold seals, gathers, loops, heat control, flame atmosphere, annealing, setting up color layers and striking colors.

Students will use heat and gravity to shape their pieces. We will focus on how to read the heat base in the glass, so we are anticipating its movement and not just reacting to it.

We will practice making loops for your pendants, drilling with hot tungsten, making a layered boro twisty, encasing with boro, adding dots, reaming a big hole in boro using peter tweezers and Handy Andys, raking boro using a clear stringer, making a Maria, adding a drip to the bottom of a pendant, layering colors, simple implosions and boro hearts.

If you are interested in off mandrel boro pendants or getting beautiful results from boro color, this class is for you. www.brentgraber.com
